The Singapore Writers Festival is back and jumps right into the school year with Words Go Round 2012!
The Singapore Writers Festival celebrates literature in Singapore’s official languages – English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil – and brings together literary talents from home and around the world to a larger audience. Our last Festival was held 22 to 30 October 2011 and was a success with many Singaporeans and visitors, who enjoyed how the writers generously shared their ideas, stories and lives.
Words Go Round is our dedicated schools programme and it promises the same lively writers, stimulating discussions and exciting interactions. We started Words Go Round programme for the first time in 2011 and took writers to almost 3,000 students in 24 schools.
We look forward to engaging more students this year and getting them to enjoy literature, especially those created by our fellow Singaporeans. All this is part of our year-round activities leading up to the main Festival in November 2012.
Schools will be pleased to note that all Words Go Round events (except for the Workshops for Teachers) come under the National Arts Council Arts Education Programme (www.nac.gov.sg/aep) and are eligible for the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.
