PRESIDENT
Mohamed Pitchay Gani Bin Mohamed Abdul Aziz is a critique and literary analyst with expertise in anthropology linguistics, which spans into the realm of language and literary evolution and developments. He is currently the Coordinator Special Training Programme (Mother Tongue) National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. Among his research includes; contemporary trends in Singapore Malay writers, the development of Singapore modern Malay literature, and 2000 years of Malay language. In 2005, he produced the first ever directory of post 1965 Singapore Malay writers. In 2006, he received the Young Laureate Award.
DEPUTY PRESIDENT
Mohamed Latiff Bin Mohamed is widely regarded as a radical poet whose works circumvent the life and struggle of the post-independence Malay community in Singapore. Among his outstanding works are poem Bangsaku di Hari Lahirku, short stories Mondok and novel Batas Langit apart from the numerous essays and criticism. He received the prestigious; Montblanc NUS Centre for the Arts Literary Award (1988), SEA Write Award (2002), and Tun Seri Lanang Award (2003) for his outstanding contributions in the world of literature, while his collections of poetry Bagiku Sepilah Sudah and collections of Short Stories Nostalgia yang Hilang received the Singapore Literature Prize in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
VICE PRESIDENT
Yazid Bin Hussein is a teaching fellow with the Special Training Programme (Mother Tongue) at National Institute of Education/Nanyang Technological University. Currently he is pursuing his PhD. in Malay Studies at Academy Malay Studies (University of Malaya), specializing and majoring in Malay Literature and Theory in Literature. He is a critique and literary analyst with expertise in Malay Literature (Classical, Modern and Post-Modern) and Theory in Literature, which spans into the realm of language, culture, sociology and literary in Malay literature.
SECRETARY
Abdul Samat Bin Ali is an established editor and writer who contributed much to the development of the Malay language school texts books when he served as writer in the Ministry of Education. He is very much involved with the production of books and scripts when he was in the Production Centre-ETD, MOE. Among his publications are; Pacific Malay language Series (1977), Sari Bahasa (1983-1988), Kita (1997-1998), Bacaan Tambahan Pancaran Bahasa (1999 – 2000), and Malay texts book syllabus B (2001-2005).
ASSISTANT SECRETARY
Hoirull Amri Bin Tahiran is a promising critical analyst who shows concernment in areas of multi-culturalism and youth development programs. He is a teacher and is presently the Vice-President of Asian Youth Forum, which dissertates on cross-cultural understanding, language learning and developing young leaders. In 2005, he was part of the research team that compiled the landmark 55 years biography of Asas ’50 entitled “Dari Gerhana ke Puncak Purnama”.
TREASURER
Drs Masran Sabran is an established education officer who has served the Ministry of Education in the curriculum and planning division as well as trainer for the conversational Malay language and culture to the Ministry of Defence. He is an active member of the Kampong Ubi MAEC. He is also the executive committee member of the Malay Language Council Singapore. Regionally, he is the Singapore Representative to the Sultan Idris University of Education, Perak and an alumi of the university. Drs Masran received his Masters of Arts from Indonesia National University and is currently a liason officer for regional affiliations.
HEAD OF PUBLICATIONS
Muhammad Irwan bin Jamal is a young upcoming social commentator with a keen interest in philosophy, pedagogy and the sociology of literature. He is currently a second year student-teacher in the Bachelor of Arts Education (Malay Language Specialization) course, at the National Institute of Education (NIE). His creative works won top prizes at the NIE-STP Creative Writing Competition in 2006 and published in the local Malay newspaper, Berita Harian. In addition, his critical pieces were also published in the NIE-STP journal “Aktivis” as well as the NIE newsletter, “Voices.” In 2005, he was part of the research team that compiled the landmark biography of Asas ’50 entitled “Dari Gerhana ke Puncak Purnama.”
HEAD OF YOUTH
Suryadi Mohd. Bajuri is an enthusiast and passionate in the field of volunteer work. He is currently a teacher at specializing in Malay Language. Presently, he is the president of Pergas (Singapore Islamic Scholars and religious teachers association) student council, an ordinary member of Pergas and an executive member of Darussalam youth (Darussalam mosque). In 2006, he also lead T.E.A.M. full circle under Darussalam youth as head of logistic to Aceh for the Tsunami humanitarian aid mission.
HEAD OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Nur Namira Mazlan is an aspiring columnist. She is currently a teacher specializing in Malay Language. In 2004, she was part of the publication team for Aktivis, an academic journal published by NIE Special Training Programme. In 2005, she was a member of the research team for ‘Leksikon’, the first directory of post 1965 Malay writers and ‘Dari Gerhana ke Puncak Purnama’, the biography of Asas ’50. She was also the editor-in-chief of NIE’s biannual newsletter in 2007.
HEAD OF PROGRAM
Muhammad Herwanto Johari is a second year trainee teacher at the NIE, NTU specialising in Malay Language. A graduate of Raffles Institution and Junior College, the former winner of the Prime Minister Book Prize was also a principal paper presenter at the launch of Singapore Literature Prize winner, Mohd Latiff Mohd’s anthology. He was also invited to present his self innovated pedagogical approach in Malay H2 Literature to an audience of 400 pre-university students and distinguished guests from the MOE during the National Schools Literature Seminar in 2008. An avid marathoner, he currently spearheads the Youth Olympic Literary Movement amongst the youth wing; creating, developing and executing olympic based pedagogical approaches for the preschool, primary and secondary levels which has earned him offers to conduct workshops and talks by the Curriculum Planning & Development Division of the MOE in 2009. He is currently a sub-committee member of the READ! Singapore initiative.
